2 DAY IN PERSON MULTI-SENSORY MATHS TRAINING
Foundations of the Laungage of Maths
For Students With Physical and Intellectual Disabilities & Complex Needs
If you have students or young people in your educational setting that you wish to teach maths to in a way that will meet their accessibility needs as well as learning needs, then this professional development opportunity is for you.
10am to 3pm AEST Wednesday 20th May and Thursday 21st May
East Bentleigh, Melbourne

Maths is a language, so why don’t we teach it as such?
Communication is a top priority for students and this couldn’t be truer for our students who have additional learning needs, whether physical or intellectual. In order to be able to communicate with whomever they want, whenever they want, where ever they want, these students need to be equipped with the skills to communicate in the language of maths. If we don’t teach them this language; we are only doing half our job.

The CRA Maths Multi-Sensory Integer Block Kit is our main teaching tool for all number and algebra related to whole numbers. By using these hands-on manipulatives, your student is able to bridge the gap from concrete understanding > to graphic representation > to abstract application and mastery of counting, place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. The Kit's additional features and improvements in size (now compatible with popular building blocks such as lego*), quality and presentation make this the most highly recommended in the current marketplace for integer-based base ten blocks.
This Integer Block Kit comes with our Integer Block Booklet and Demonstration Video sent to you via email.
Note: If you already have an Integer Block Kit available, this may be swapped for the same price, with a Teacher Magnetic Block Kit for whiteboard use.
Our pencil sets are specifically colour matched to the Integer Block colours, making it easy for you - and your student - to learn to identify each number as it is taught. They are a great tool for the representation component of the student drawing what they've built. Fun, easy and applicable!
Course Structure
Once enrolled, you are provided with access to your own dashboard and access to your chosen self-directed course for a twelve (12) month time-frame. These lessons are unlocked sequentially to support your own learning journey. We invite you, and recommend your attendance at our monthly 'live' online group Implementation Sessions through the Zoom platform.
This model will ensure you achieve understanding and mastery before progressing, and will also provide you with an opportunity to have any questions answered in regards to implementation within your classroom, small groups or one-on-one setting.

Stephanie McIlroy
Specialist Education Teacher
Stephanie McIlroy has over 12 years experience as a teacher, with over 8 of those years in a specialist setting. Steph’s younger brother is both physically and intellectually disabled and this personal experience helped shaped the career that Steph would have.
Steph's level of personal understanding drives her passion when engaging with students and their families as she understands the day to day experience for them.
Steph herself struggled with Maths as a young learner and required many years of tutoring to build her skills to the point of thriving. This has been enhanced by her training under Esther White in teaching maths as a language using a consistent, hands-on, multi-sensory and structured model and approach.
Steph's vow to ensure that no child felt about Maths the way she or her brother did in their early years, fuels her vision each day as she instructs classroom students, as she teaches her own 3 children, and now as she joins Esther White in providing educators with a simple yet effective way to truly support students with diverse and complex needs.
Why Training Matters
Student success depends on a confident and well-trained teacher. A great program isn’t enough.
We’ve distilled 24+ years of research and classroom practice into signature training levels that show you not only what to teach, but how to teach it effectively.
Designed for teachers, tutors, intervention specialists, and parents, our training is especially effective for transforming outcomes for students with dyscalculia, learning differences, or maths anxiety.
Our training is:
- Practical – step-by-step lessons you can use immediately.
- Research-based – grounded in the RTI framework and our I-CRAVE Maths methodology.
- Transformational – proven to boost outcomes for general students, as well as those with dyscalculia, learning differences, or maths anxiety.
Our Training is Evidence-Based
I-CRAVE Maths Methodology
Our ‘I-CRAVE Maths’ Methodology was developed by Maths Australia CEO & Director, Esther White. It informs everything we offer and systematises the latest pedagogical research to make maths the simplest subject in the world for teachers, assistants and students to understand, master and enjoy.

I = IDENTIFY
To offer effective instruction, you must know the student's current level of mastery. Through a sequential series of simple-to-use assessments, you'll identify the foundations that are - or are not - in place for us to build upon and hence where to begin.
C = CONCRETE
Every lesson begins with clear and accurate demonstrations using specific hands-on manipulative tools (integer blocks or advanced kit) to build rectangles and create understanding for application in real life.
R - REPRESENTATION
The student draws their own proportionately accurate representation of what they have just built. Much like a dog could look more like a dinosaur if the proportions are inaccurate, so too representations in base ten must be accurate to develop congruency, confidence and understanding (yes, that’s right - no bundles, no ten frames, no dots - they’ve been superseded).
A = ABSTRACT
Show the symbols and teach the rules of the language of maths accurately. With understanding from the concrete and representational stages, the student can both encode and decode with confidence and ease.
V = VERBAL
Consistently engage the student in dialogue to enhance their learning and to check whether your teaching has been clear and accurate. Have the student teach the lesson back to you to check for understanding. Them hearing their own voice embeds the knowledge.
E = EXPLICIT
Explicit Instruction refers to that which is clear, accurate, precise and transferable. We ensure absolute congruency between the models used, the representations drawn, the squiggles written and the verbal instructions given for application in everyday life. This congruency develops confidence and maximises teaching time through reducing extraneous instructional clutter.
