Four easy steps to master maths forever!

It doesn’t matter whether you were a whiz at maths or you struggled all the way through school, the Maths Australia system provides a sure-fire way to make teaching and learning maths simple, effective and fun.

Preparing the lesson

Math-U-See's learning system contains everything you need to effectively teach maths to any student, or to yourself. Beginning at Lesson One for your chosen Level, simply watch the DVD and read the Instruction Manual to ensure you are confident in presenting the lesson.

Presenting to your student

Using the colorful integer blocks, fraction overlays or algebra/ decimal inserts relevant to your chosen Level, present the lesson to your student. Additional suggestions for instruction, interactive tools and practice worksheets all work together to ensure each student understands the lesson content and can apply it in everyday life .

Practicing for Mastery

Once a concept is understood through Maths Australia's revolutionary multi-sensory and sequential learning approach, you practice what you’ve learnt to achieve mastery. Student workbooks provide continuous review of previous lessons and practice for mastery of the new lesson, and each student is encouraged to teach the lesson back to you.

Progress after Mastery

Our unique multi-sensory and sequential learning system ensures that you and your student(s) develop confidence in both understanding and application. Only once this is proven does the student progress to the next lesson. This step is essential, ensuring a firm foundation and confidence for life.

The exclusive Maths Australia Online Placement Tests identify each student’s current level of maths mastery and ensure that they are placed at the most effective entry level in the Math-U-See program. The Placement Test will also help identify any conceptual holes in their understanding so that action can be taken to fill the gaps, assist in later assessment and monitor their progress and mastery.

Administering the Placement Test:

Accurate Placement is critical!

If you and/ or your adult student can recognise, read, and write the numbers 0-10, begin with Alpha Placement Test.

Progress through every Placement Test until you and/or your adult student begins to struggle or show signs of not understanding the questions.

The Placement Test where you/ your student starts to struggle and gains less than 90% correct answers is the level to commence Math-U-See ie. commence at Alpha Level if they scored less than 90% on the written test.

Please note: If the student is finger or unit counting, they will need to commence at Alpha Level regardless of their age. If you have any questions at all in regards to administering or interpreting these placement tests, please contact us.

### Alpha

Students who are ready for Alpha

- can accurately count up to 9
- can associate a number with a given quantity of objects
- can write the numerals 0 to 9
- can follow simple directions
- can engage in a lesson with an instructor for about 15 minutes
- can work to commit addition and subtraction facts to memory
- can persevere at a task until new skills are mastered

### Beta

Students who are ready for Beta

- can count by tens
- can begin at any number and count to 100
- can write any number between 0 and 999
- can recall the addition and subtraction facts from memory
- can use place value to identify the digits that represent units, tens, and hundreds
- can write a mathematical expression (number sentence) to represent a word problem
- can solve for an unknown in a simple addition or subtraction equation

### Gamma

Students who are ready for Gamma

- can read and write numbers through the hundred thousands
- can count by twos, fives, and tens
- can recall addition and subtraction facts from memory
- can add and subtract multiple-digit numbers, using regrouping (carrying or borrowing) as needed

### Delta

Students who are ready for Delta

- can comfortably add or subtract multiple-digit numbers, using regrouping as needed
- can recall single-digit multiplication facts from memory
- can demonstrate a multiplication problem by building or drawing a rectangle
- can list the multiplication facts of a given number
- can solve for an unknown factor
- can write a subtraction equation (number sentence) to solve a word problem
- can write a multiplication equation (number sentence) to solve a word problem

### Epsilon

Students who are ready for Epsilon

- can comfortably add or subtract multiple-digit numbers, using regrouping as necessary
- can demonstrate a division problem by drawing a diagram
- can give the quotients for single-digit division facts from memory
- can comfortably multiply multiple-digit numbers, regrouping as necessary
- can comfortably divide multiple-digit numbers with remainders
- can determine and apply the operation(s) needed to solve a word problem

### Zeta

Students who are ready for Zeta

- can competently add, subtract, multiply, and divide multiple-digit whole numbers
- can competently add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions
- can competently add, subtract, multiply, and divide mixed numbers
- can determine and apply the operation(s) necessary to solve a word problem with whole numbers or fractions

### Pre-Algebra

Students who are ready for Pre-Algebra

- can easily add, subtract, multiply, and divide multiple-digit whole numbers
- can proficiently add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions
- can proficiently add, subtract, multiply, and divide mixed numbers
- can proficiently add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimal numbers
- can convert between a fraction, decimal, and percent
- can determine and apply the operation(s) necessary to solve a word problem with whole numbers, fractions, or decimals

### Algebra 1

Students who are ready for Algebra 1

- can proficiently add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, mixed numbers, and decimals
- can convert between a fraction, decimal, and percent
- can solve one-step equations
- can plot points on a number line and coordinate grid
- can perform operations with integers
- can write an algebraic expression to solve a word problem

### Geometry

Students who are ready for Geometry

- Students who are ready for Geometry have successfully completed Pre-Algebra (generally an eighth-grade math course). It is highly recommended that Algebra 1 be completed as well.Start Geometry Placement Test
