Our approach has built-in mechanisms to ensure that you know (and your student knows) where they're up to at any point. Each concept builds on each other (you can't learn multiplication if you don't know addition and subtraction first), and progress happens only once mastery is measured.

Programs aligned with Australian Curriculum outcomes
Learning occurs, according to research and evidence-based methodology, with students mastering each concept before moving on to the next, sequentially. Our approach can be applied to teaching in any order, but we recommend a program that follows these sequential research recommendations and only aligns to ACARA guidelines in a modified sequence based on mastery of each maths topic (rather than on a grade level basis).

STEP 1
Prepare to teach
Programs need to be simple to execute, with each concept clearly outlined with explicit guidelines on how to deliver every lesson with your students. Math-U-See is the program most aligned to our approach. Each level comes with instruction manuals and lesson-by-lesson videos and the hands-on manipulatives reinforce each concept in an engaging, multi-sensory way. Extra examples and activities, teaching tips, testing and answers are all included.
STEP 2
Present your lesson
The instruction manual gives a clear guide to present each lesson. Because you'll have a clear understanding of what your student needs to learn (using our free online placement tests), you'll know exactly where to start and what they need to focus on to move forward confidently with maths. Because we're meeting the student where they're at with this approach, you'll be able to deliver excellent results for your clients, every time.
STEP 3
Build strong foundations for your student
Practice each concept with your student using specific tools to build strong foundations in their understanding of maths.
We have a proven method (called ‘build-write-say’) to help you establish a systematic, hands-on approach to effective learning. Build each problem with the manipulatives, write it down step-by-step, then ask your student to say how the solution works. Learning is reinforced as the student explains the concept back to you. The regular use of the manipulatives also improves understanding and retention of each topic - so you don't have to go over each lesson again and again!
STEP 4
Progress with your student
Your students will develop their mastery and, as a result, grow in confidence with maths as you help them tackle more concepts. They will have more confidence in you, and in themselves.
Maths Australia only recommends programs designed to support individual learning at each student's own pace. Focusing on your student/s needs will help them really take the proper time to grasp each concept.
And as a tutor, better results for the student means a better and more satisfying result for you.

THE FOUNDATIONAL LEVELS
( Pre-school to Grade 8 and Intervention )
Our 7 foundational levels focus around multi-sensory maths using manipulatives (hands-on tools) and our 4-step methodology:

Students progress through each level sequentially (left to right above) to build on the foundational principles learnt in the previous levels. For some students, a particular level will be easy and they'll breeze through. For other students, that same level may take a little longer. That's why we advocate for the Math-U-See program to support the Maths Australia teaching approach. The layout of the program caters to any student's learning speed.
Simply take your time on the levels you're struggling with, and breeze on through if you're mastering it quickly. Each level comes with lessons and materials to make sure 'mastery' of that level has been achieved before you move on to the next.
THE ADVANCED LEVELS
( Grade 8 to University Level )
As students progress into more advanced maths concepts, the understanding developed in mastering the foundational concepts form the backbone of knowledge. With an underpinning of concrete maths understanding, the advanced (mostly abstract) ideas are rooted in a rich depth of understanding... No more just remembering formulas!
Each level continues to sequentially build on previous mastery, all the way through to our final university-grade Calculus level.
